Motorcyclist dies in accident in Joliet, Illinois after being thrown from motorcycle

JOLIET, Ill. (CBS) — A motorcyclist was killed in a collision with a car in Joliet, Illinois, on Thursday evening.

Joliet police said their officers were called to a one-car crash with injuries at the intersection of North Larkin Avenue and Ingalls Avenue.

A preliminary investigation into the crash revealed that a Toyota Camry, driven by a 23-year-old Joliet man, was traveling north on North Larkin Avenue past Ingalls Avenue and was waiting to turn left west onto Ingalls Avenue.

The Toyota turned left and collided with a Harley Davidson XL1200 motorcycle driven by a 19-year-old man, also from Joliet, traveling south on North Larkin Avenue.

Police said the motorcyclist was thrown to the ground by the collision. He was taken by the Joliet Fire Department to Ascension St. Joseph Medical Center, where he died. The driver of the Toyota was not injured.

The road was closed for hours while members of the Joliet Police Department's traffic unit reconstructed the accident scene.

The investigation into the crash is still ongoing.
