Fort Carson military vehicle involved in accident on I-25

According to CSP, a vehicle struck a military vehicle from behind just after 4 a.m. Friday north of Pueblo.

PUEBLO, Colorado – Several people were taken to the hospital after the driver of a Ford Explorer struck a military vehicle traveling south on Interstate 25 as part of a military convoy.

Colorado State Patrol officers were called to the accident near Mile 107 north of Pueblo shortly after 4 a.m. Friday. They learned that the Explorer had crashed into the rear of a military Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) with a trailer. The vehicle was traveling in a convoy with other military vehicles at the time of the accident, the CSP said.

Several people from each vehicle were taken to area hospitals. The extent of their injuries is unknown.

Initially only the left lane of the highway was closed due to debris, but now all lanes are closed to investigate and clean up the accident scene. Southbound traffic is being diverted off the interstate at exit 108 and back again at exit 104.

Fort Carson has confirmed that the military vehicle and personnel involved belong to its post.
