Ohio murder suspect from America's Most Wanted caught working as a police officer in Mexico

A man suspected of a 2004 murder in Butler County was arrested two decades later while serving as a police officer in Mexico.

According to a press release from the U.S. Marshalls Service, 72-year-old Antonio Riano was arrested on August 1 in his hometown of Zapotitlan Palmas in the Mexican state of Oaxaca. He was subsequently taken to the Butler County Jail.

According to the US Marshall Service, he was working as a local police officer at the time of his arrest.

Riano appeared in a 2005 episode of America's Most Wanted about the December 2004 shooting of 25-year-old Benjamin Becarra.

“The United States Marshal Service, through its Violent Fugitive Task Force, supports our state and local partners in apprehending the region's most dangerous fugitives,” said Michael D. Black, U.S. Marshal for the Southern District of Ohio, in a press release. “This arrest is the result of the continuous sharing of information between agencies and the determination of investigators who refused to give up on this case.”

According to Butler County Jail records, he was charged with murder and aggravated assault.
