The train driver's injuries were described as minor.

The accident destroyed a railway bridge and knocked down some trees. However, apart from the damage to the wagons, no other damage was caused. The derailment covers a large area and the clean-up work is expected to take some time.

Several streets near the accident site were closed overnight, including Valmont Street and Pearl Parkway. They were reopened by daybreak Friday.

Some fuel leaked during the accident, but police believe none of it made it into nearby Boulder Creek.

Aerial footage from CBS Colorado's news helicopter showed several derailed train cars and damage to some tracks Friday morning.

BNSF Railway is investigating the accident. There is currently no information on what caused it.
