Rams HC Sean McVay gives injury update on Jonah Jackson and Darious Williams

Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay announced that the team expects offensive lineman Jonah Jackson and defensive back Darious Williams to be “worked back in” by next week.

When Jackson was first injured in late July, his return date was scheduled for Week 1. His early return is good news for the offensive line. The unit was hampered by numerous injuries during training camp and practice.

the former Pro Bowler was Los Angeles' top free agent target. Jackson signed a three-year, $51 million contract with the Rams. Jackson was dealing with a bruised shoulder blade, which was a major setback for the Rams, as the Rams had invested so much money in signing the offensive lineman.

“I know he wants to be here more than anyone, and he played great the other day,” McVay told Gary Klein of the Los Angeles Times in early August. “He's done a lot — there's a reason we were so keen to get him here, and this is another little temporary setback.”

Williams has been battling a hamstring injury since late July. He was also signed by the Rams in the offseason. In March, Williams signed a three-year, $22.5 million contract with Los Angeles. He is expected to start in the secondary as a cornerback.

The return of two key offseason additions is encouraging for the Rams, as the team was already weakened by a series of injuries before the season began. At one point, a total of five offensive linemen had sustained injuries.

Matthew Stafford's injury is also developing in the right direction. Stafford was struggling with a strained thigh, but fully participated in the joint training with the Houston Texans on Thursday.

“It was a full day for him,” Rams head coach Sean McVay said, according to the team's transcript. “It was good. We prefer that he not have to give up to the back on some of them. But because of the progression, he wanted to do his job, and I thought their (Texans) general etiquette as far as staying away from him was really good. And I was happy with the way our line fought.”

The Rams had to deal with a number of injuries before the start of the regular season, but with the return of key regular players, things are definitely looking better in Los Angeles.
