Carbon monoxide incident at Cypress Bay High School: Multiple patients hospitalized – NBC 6 South Florida

Several workers were hospitalized following a carbon monoxide incident at a Weston high school Friday morning, officials said.

The incident occurred at Cypress Bay High School, where people in the cafeteria were experiencing dizziness, city officials said.

Broward Sheriff's Fire Department officials said five people were taken to Cleveland Clinic, including four cafeteria workers and a firefighter. Broward County Public Schools officials said eight people in total were affected and all were school employees.

Aerial footage from Helicopter 6 showed rescue workers assisting several people who appeared to be staff members outside the school.

The cafeteria was evacuated and two hazardous materials teams ventilated the building, officials said in a statement on X.

“Crews detected high levels of carbon monoxide and all gas supplies to the building were shut off,” the statement said.

A follow-up report said carbon monoxide levels were now low.

No further information has been released.
