New beta of Windows 10 22H2 fixes memory leaks and crashes

Microsoft has released a new beta of Windows 10 22H2 (KB5041582) with fixes for memory leaks and crashes for Insiders in the Beta and Release Preview channels.

The company says that update KB5041582 fixes an issue that causes some apps to stop due to a memory leak in a Bluetooth device and a memory leak in the Input Method Editor (IME) when closing combo boxes that have input focus.

Additionally, a bug in the Bind Filter Driver that caused affected systems to freeze when accessing symbolic links and a reboot issue caused by a Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) task failing to re-enable the Unified Write Filter (UWF) due to a deadlock were fixed.

“The Beta Channel and Release Preview Channel will receive the same Windows 10 builds. However, in the Beta Channel, we will try out with Insiders new features that we are working on that are not yet ready for all Windows 10 customers,” the Windows Insider program team said Thursday.

KB5041582 is now available for Insider systems running Windows 10, version 22H2. Once installed, the version will be updated to build 19045.4842.

Windows 10 Beta Channel reopened after three years

Microsoft reopened the Windows 10 Beta Channel in early June and announced the first Windows 10 beta build since 2021, three years after the last such build was released to Insiders in the Beta and Release Preview channels.

“To bring new features and further improvements to Windows 10 as needed, we need a place where we can actively collaborate with Windows Insiders on feature development,” the Windows Insider team said on June 4.

“That's why today we're opening the Beta Channel to Windows Insiders who are currently using Windows 10. This lets us try out new features for Windows 10, version 22H2, with Insiders before we release them to all Windows 10 customers.”

Insiders who want to test new Windows 10 features and fixes as they become available should join or switch to the Beta Channel by going to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Insider Program and selecting the Beta Channel after clicking the current Insider Channel selection to go to the Settings page and the list of available Insider Channels.

However, if you switch to the Canary or Dev channels, your devices will be updated to the latest Windows 11 version available for those channels. It's also important to note that Microsoft does not update systems immediately and gives users a short period of time to revert to Windows 10, which requires a clean install.
