Trial date set for alleged murderer of 6-year-old Bella Fontenelle

GRETNA, Louisiana (WVUE) – The trial date for Bunnak Landon, accused of the gruesome murder of six-year-old Bella Fontenelle, has been set for Dec. 16.

According to authorities, Landon attacked and strangled Fontenelle on the night of Tuesday, April 25, at the home of her father, with whom he was in a relationship.

Investigators believe Landon then transported the body in a 38-liter chlorine bucket on a cart to the nearby home of the girl's biological mother.

Landon, who was recently found competent to stand trial after several psychological evaluations, has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and other charges. Prosecutors and defense attorneys continue to evaluate Landon's mental health.

A judge will decide at a hearing on September 6 whether defense attorneys can take jurors to the crime scene.
