Eastern Randolph High student involved in serious accident

The Eastern Randolph High School community is in mourning after a fatal car crash. The Randolph County School District said four students were involved in a serious fatal car crash Thursday evening. The North Carolina Highway Patrol said the crash occurred on Kildee Church Road near Parks Crossroads Church Road in Randolph County. According to police, a 17-year-old was driving westbound on Kildee Church Road when he left the road. According to police, the driver overcorrected and got back on the road before leaving the road again. The car then struck a tree and caught fire. According to police, a 15-year-old boy from Ramseur who was riding in the car died at the scene. A 17-year-old suffered life-threatening injuries and was flown by helicopter to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Two other teens suffered serious injuries and were taken to hospitals. The administration will keep these students and their families in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time,” Gainey said. Additional counselors will be on the Eastern Randolph High campus to support students and staff. School officials said they will also have additional counselors available for students and staff at the school next week. Monday marks the start of the new school year for Randolph County students. The Randolph County School District announced that four students were involved in a serious car accident that resulted in death on Thursday evening.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol said the crash occurred on Kildee Church Road near Parks Crossroads Church Road in Randolph County. According to police, a 17-year-old was traveling west on Kildee Church Road when the driver left the road. According to police, the driver overcorrected and pulled back onto the road before leaving the road again. The car then struck a tree before catching fire.

According to police, a 15-year-old boy from Ramseur who was a passenger in the car died at the scene. A 17-year-old suffered life-threatening injuries and was flown by helicopter to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Two other teenagers suffered serious injuries and were taken to hospitals.

Randolph County Schools Superintendent Stephen Gainey said their thoughts and prayers are with the students and their families.

“These students are very special members of the Eastern Randolph High School student body and the Randolph County school system. The school administration will be thinking of and praying for these students and their families during this difficult time,” Gainey said.

Additional counselors will be on campus at Eastern Randolph High School to assist students and staff. School officials said they will also provide additional counselors for students and staff at the school next week. Randolph County students will return for the new school year on Monday.
