Teenager charged with drug-related death of teenage girl

OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – A 17-year-old has been charged with homicide with aggravated risk to a child after he gave a female victim narcotics, resulting in her death, according to the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office.

On February 11, officers responded to a call to a home on Miller Street in Fort Walton Beach because a juvenile had been found dead in her own bedroom. After an investigation and search of the room, pills containing fentanyl were found, according to OCSO.

Further investigation led to the discovery that the female victim, 16, and Sa Qualen Grant, 17, allegedly arranged to meet in public, where the victim purchased pills from Grant. OCSO investigators also found surveillance cameras documenting the transaction.

Investigators found Grant, who said in an interview he did not know the victim. According to OCSO, Grant's phone and video recordings showed otherwise.

According to OCSO, the victim's autopsy report and laboratory results indicated that the female victim's cause of death was fentanyl poisoning. Both fentanyl and norfentanyl were detected in the victim's blood.
