The fire broke out near the roof of the building and the two floors below were temporarily evacuated.

Crews from the Clark County Fire Department (CCFD) and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) arrived at the scene around 7:50 p.m.

Smoke and a small debris fire on the roof were quickly extinguished, firefighters said.

No flames penetrated the building. No one was injured.

The fire department did not provide an estimate of the damage needed to repair the building.

According to Las Vegas television station KVVU, the cause of the fire was still under investigation on Friday.

Check-in at the hotel was suspended. Check-in resumed at 9 p.m. However, the check-in process was delayed until the evening hours.

Numerous CCFD crews responded to the hotel. Twelve fire engines, four truck companies, four battalion chiefs, three rescue units, three support units and two investigators responded to the scene. Las Vegas Fire and Rescue crews also responded.

The Renaissance Hotel is located near Paradise and Desert Inn roads. The Las Vegas Convention Center is nearby.

Gambling sites closed in Alabama

Five illegal gambling establishments in Selma, Alabama, were shut down due to temporary restraining orders, authorities announced this week. A total of six gambling establishments were also raided.

The five closed sites were identified as follows:

1391 E. Highland Ave., Suite 114

113 Dallas Ave.

1824 Highway 14E

1 Hickory Street

2584 Highway 80W

“These facilities are operated in complete disregard of Alabama law,” Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall said in a statement.

The investigation into the incident was conducted by the office of Dallas County Sheriff Michael Granthum.

“I applaud Dallas County Sheriff Granthum's dedication to fighting this evil and his willingness to invite our team to help combat these criminal activities,” Marshall added.

The law is clear. Gambling is illegal in Alabama and the Attorney General's Office will continue to enforce the laws of this state.”

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency and the Dallas County District Attorney's Office were also involved in the investigation.

Officers also searched each of the five locations, including the sixth location, 2535 Lewis Street.

The search warrants for the six locations were approved by a local judge after evidence was presented to the court.
