All about TikTok's viral “Dubai Chocolate Bar” and its green filling

A sweet treat called “Dubai Chocolate Bar” conquers FoodTok.

For months, TikTok has been flooded with videos of an extra-large, extra-crunchy bar of chocolate. The thick treat comes from Fix Dessert Chocolatier in Dubai and is particularly colorful both inside and out.

The outside of the bar is hand-painted with edible splatters – but it's the inside that makes onlookers' mouths water. The filling is made of pistachios and knafeh, a Middle Eastern dessert made of sweet and buttery flaky pastry strands. The shop's original dessert, “Can't Get Khafeh of It,” was previously only available to people in Dubai – the shop doesn't ship the bars outside of the city.

Fix Dessert Chocolatier founder Sarah Hamouda tells PEOPLE about the TikTok hype, saying it's “surreal.”

“Creating these chocolate bars has been a dream I've had for a long time. As an expat living in Dubai and surrounded by such a wonderful mix of cultures, I really wanted to create something that people from all over the world could identify with – something that would evoke special memories no matter where you come from,” she says.

TikToker @mariavehera257 brought the dessert into the spotlight with a video posted in December 2023. The clip, which has 4.8 million likes and 74.2 million views, shows the influencer chewing the giant chocolate bar. The sound the creator made while chewing sparked a flood of comments, as did speculation about the green filling.

“The crunch from the pistachio variety. 😍 oh my god,” wrote one commenter. “I didn't think it was guacamole 😭😭,” commented another person.

It's the viral response of TikToks like this one that has Hamouda amazed.

“When I started FIX Dessert Chocolatier, I never imagined our chocolate bars would become so popular. It's been overwhelming in the best way,” she adds. “Seeing how much people love them makes me so proud and I feel so lucky to be part of this journey.”

Chefs like Yumna Jawad of Feel Good Foodie have attempted to recreate the bar and detailed the steps to create a compelling copy.

For her DIY version, Jawad breaks apart strands of puff pastry and fries them in a pan with butter. Once they're crispy and golden brown, she stirs in pistachio cream with pieces of nuts. Then she melts chocolate and fills a mold with a thick layer of the nutty knafeh, which is covered in chocolate.

Imitators sold on Amazon and Etsy have mixed reviews and range in price from $18 to $54. Now, candy stores across the country have started selling their own versions of the pistachio bar. Nuts Factory stores in New York, New Jersey and Massachusetts offer their version of the candy bar, as do Truman Chocolates in Texas, Farhat Sweets in Michigan and Sweeties Candy Cottage in Long Island, New York.

There were plenty of other green recipes on TikTok this summer.

Logan Moffitt, who goes by @logagm on TikTok, provides his followers with cucumber salad recipes almost daily, all of which begin with the words: “Sometimes you have to eat a whole cucumber.”

Logan Moffitt has gone viral by sharing cucumber-based recipes.

Each recipe takes about 10 minutes to prepare and requires basic ingredients like peanut butter, soy sauce or cream cheese.

His 4.3 million followers have embraced his vegetarian recipes and many have recreated his ideas.

Moffit told PEOPLE that he draws inspiration for new recipes from other food videos on TikTok. So far, everything has been delicious and “everything goes on cucumber.”
