Murder defendant Gerald Brevard told DC Superior Court Judge Robert Okun on August 23 that he intends to independently review the DNA evidence presented by prosecutors.

Brevard, 33, is charged with first-degree intentional murder with use of a weapon, two counts of assault with intent to kill, aggravated assault, assault in a murder case, five counts of possession of a weapon during a violent crime, unlawful possession of a weapon despite a prior conviction of a violent crime, two counts of unlawful possession of a weapon by a convict, three counts of unlawful carrying of a pistol outside a residence or business and criminal damage to property valued at less than $1,000.

The charges stem from his alleged involvement in three incidents, including the shooting and stabbing death of 54-year-old Morgan Holmes on March 9, 2022 in the 400 block of New York Avenue, NE. Brevard is also accused of a drive-by shooting on March 3, 2022 in the 900 block of Mount Olivet Street, NE, that left one person injured, and a shooting on March 8, 2022 at the intersection of 17th and H Streets, NE, that left one person injured.

According to Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) records, Brevard was arrested on May 15, 2022 by agents of the Washington Field Division of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

At the time of his arrest, according to court documents, Brevard was also being investigated by the New York City Police Department (NYPD) on suspicion of shooting two homeless people in New York City. One of the victims succumbed to his injuries.

The next hearing in the case is scheduled for December 11.
