49ers drafted Ricky Pearsall despite his shoulder injury

The San Francisco 49ers have been tight-lipped about Ricky Pearsall's shoulder injury, which has caused him to miss practice for the past few weeks. There are no details or timeline for his recovery.

It was bizarre, to say the least, but not as bizarre as the fact that the 49ers drafted Pearsall despite his shoulder injury. According to Mike Silver of the San Francisco Chronicle, the 49ers were fully aware that he had a problem with his shoulder. They drafted him anyway because they believed everything would be OK.

“The other component is Pearsall, who has looked fantastic since he was drafted, he has actually been healthy in the 1.5 training sessions,” Silver told KNBR (h/t NinersNation): “But he has shoulder issues that are recurring now and are concerning in the long run. They knew about it before they signed him and hoped it wouldn't happen.”

Unbelievable. So many questions come to mind. First of all, when and how did Pearsall sustain the injury? What exactly did he hurt? Is this the reason the 49ers kept him out of one-on-one games in training camp? It also makes sense why he attended OTAs in the blue no-contact jersey.

Kyle Shanahan revealed that Pearsall's shoulder injury was a re-aggravation from OTAs. Now it's clear that he already went into the draft with that situation. You can't really trust the 49ers to draft players in the first round. Their judgment is either really bad or they're extremely unlucky. Now that this information is out, it's much more important to keep an eye on Pearsall's shoulder injury.

One has to wonder if he can even find a role with the 49ers this year given the time he missed.
