Teenager and two men arrested in livestream after murder of Birmingham mother Asia Poole

Three people have been charged in connection with the fatal shooting at a Birmingham apartment complex that was captured live on Facebook videos.

Two men – Justin Jamond Hendrix, 20, and Taylor McCloud, 22 – are charged with the murder of 21-year-old Asia Alyce Poole and the attempted murder of her best friend, who survived the volley. Hendrix was booked into the Jefferson County Jail at 4:33 p.m. Friday.

Janiyah Hendrix, 19, who was arguing with Poole before the shooting, faces felony theft charges after authorities say she fled the chaotic crime scene in Poole's car.

Janiyah Hendrix and Justin Hendrix are siblings.

Poole's acquaintances said there had been an ongoing dispute between her and Janiyah Hendrix over a man.

The dispute reached its climax on Tuesday evening when a physical altercation broke out between the two women in the parking lot, which escalated into a fight and eventually a shooting.

The brawl broke out Tuesday at the Monarch Ridge apartment complex on Gallant Drive, formerly known as Valley Brook.

The video showed Poole in a fight that started with Janiyah Hendrix and later involved several people.

It apparently started near Poole's car in the parking lot, then moved to a passageway in one of the apartment buildings and continued before a shooting broke out.

The fight and the subsequent shooting were captured live on video on Facebook.

Birmingham police arrived at the Monarch Ridge scene around 10 p.m. Initially, they reported hearing gunshots, but then officers were informed that someone had been shot, said Sergeant LaQuitta Wade.

When officers arrived, they found Poole unconscious in the alleyway of her own home. Birmingham firefighters pronounced her dead at the scene at 10:31 p.m.

Poole, a resident of Monarch Ridge, leaves behind a daughter who will start kindergarten this week. The child's 21-year-old father died on July 26.

Poole had posted his own live video from the parking lot shortly before the fight.

The videos captured the heartbreaking screams of Poole's brother and sister after the shooting.

Poole's friend was taken to UAB Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He was shot in the leg and has since been released from the hospital.

Wade said investigators found the fight appeared to have ended after it moved into the alleyway, and moments later the shots were fired.

After the shooting, Janiyah Hendrix reportedly fled in Poole's Ford sedan, which was also captured on video. Witnesses said Poole's car had already ignited when Poole jumped in and sped away.

Police have not yet officially released the number of shots fired, but estimate there could be more than 150.

It is likely that police were unable to find all of the cartridge cases. On Wednesday, an empty bullet was found outside the alleyway where Poole died.

Local residents and witnesses described the shooting as “like something out of a movie” and said it appeared to be deliberate.

There were several shooters, it was said, some wore masks and were armed with assault rifles and pistols with Glock switches.

“That's why they came,” said one resident who asked not to be named for fear of reprisals. “They were so organized. They had cordoned off everything, penned everyone in.”

Local resident Shannin Ross said at least three people initially fired shots directly into the alleyway, where Poole was eventually killed.

Poole and her friend landed on the ground, but were then picked up by her friend and made it to the doorway together.

After the first shots were fired, witnesses said someone came out of another passage and opened fire.

Afterwards, residents reported, shots were fired from all directions.

According to police, it appeared that after the shooting began, several people who were not involved in the original altercation also began using weapons.

Police and witnesses said Poole was hit at least twice.

A few nurses, Ross said, checked her pulse and found none.

“She was gone,” Ross said.

“I can't get this shit out of my head,” she said. “That little girl died because of a fight.”

The hail of bullets hit several cars and several apartments.

A local resident, who also wished to remain anonymous, showed the bullet holes in her apartment. In one of them, a glass table was broken.
