Two people died in collision near Polk City

Two people were killed this afternoon in a crash in Polk County northeast of Polk City. According to a news release from the Polk County Sheriff's Office, two vehicles collided at the intersection of NW 44th Street and NW 126th Avenue just before 2 p.m. “Officers arrived on the scene to find two vehicles involved in the crash,” the news release said. “One vehicle was in the southeast ditch of the intersection, the other was east of the intersection on the south side of the roadway and in a wooded tree line. The vehicle in the tree line was fully engulfed in flames.”Preliminary investigation indicates that the vehicle that came to a stop in the tree line was traveling eastbound on NW 126th Ave. and collided with the other vehicle traveling southbound on NW 44th St. “Two occupants of the eastbound vehicle died at the scene. Their identities have not yet been publicly released. Two people were killed this afternoon in a traffic accident in Polk County northeast of Polk City.

According to a press release from the Polk County Sheriff's Office, two vehicles collided at the intersection of NW 44th Street and NW 126th Avenue shortly before 2 p.m.

“Officers arrived at the scene and found two vehicles involved in the accident,” the press release said. “One vehicle was in the southeast ditch of the intersection, the other was east of the intersection on the south side of the roadway and in a line of trees. The vehicle in the line of trees was fully engulfed in flames.”

“Preliminary investigation indicates that the vehicle that came to rest in the tree line was traveling eastbound on NW 126th Avenue and collided with the other vehicle, which was traveling southbound on NW 44th Street.”

Two passengers in the eastbound vehicle died at the scene. Their identities have not yet been released.

An adult female driver of the southbound vehicle was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.
