Dublin police respond to shooting on Hacienda Drive

Dublin Police Services officers are investigating a shooting at an address on Hacienda Drive near the Central Parkway intersection and are asking the public to avoid that part of the city for now, the department said Friday afternoon.

The incident, which DPS announced at 2:45 p.m., occurred at 5050 Hacienda Drive – the address of the Emerald Park Apartment Homes complex. No further information has been released about the severity or circumstances of the shooting.

“There was a shooting at 5050 Hacienda Drive. Dublin Police are on scene. Please avoid the area. Details to follow,” police said on X.

City officials relayed the DPS post minutes later, adding that there was no immediate threat to the public.

On Friday, at 3:59 p.m., a brief lockdown at the neighboring James Dougherty Elementary School was lifted. Police had previously asked the school at around 2:30 p.m. – shortly after school ended at 1:55 p.m. – to secure the school grounds while they investigated the area surrounding the shooting.

“Thirty minutes after students were released today, DPS notified us of an activity that occurred off school property that required our facility to be locked down as a precautionary measure,” school officials said in a 3 p.m. message to families and staff. “The few students and staff remaining on site are under police protection and will be released once everything is clear.”

After about an hour and a half the blockade was lifted.

“We would like to thank the Dublin Police for their quick response and efforts to protect the community of Dougherty,” Dougherty officials said around 4 p.m. “The Dougherty staff did an excellent job.”
