Bears provide update on Douglas Coleman after scary injury vs. Chiefs

CHICAGO (AP) – Bears cornerback Douglas Coleman III was released from a Kansas City hospital on Friday and returned to Chicago after being injured in a tackle during a preseason game against the Chiefs.

“He's been walking around,” Bears coach Matt Eberflus told Chicago radio station WSCR “670 The Score.” “I've talked to him. He's in good spirits.”

Coleman was sedated on a stretcher and taken by ambulance from Arrowhead Stadium on Thursday night after tackling Chiefs quarterback Cornell Powell on the first play of the second half.

Coleman, 26, had his head raised as he charged near the Chiefs' sideline to make the tackle, but his neck buckled awkwardly to the side and the former CFL star player fell to the ground on impact. Coleman lay motionless as coaches from both teams rushed to the field to check on him. They were soon joined by doctors as an ambulance also pulled onto the field.

Coleman moved his limbs while medical staff removed his face mask and strapped him to a backboard. He was then loaded onto the cart and driven through the tunnel in the corner of the stadium.

The Bears won their last preseason game 34-21.
