Aurora man sentenced to 18 years in prison for armed drug transport

22-year-old Alan Diaz-Diaz was sentenced to 18 years in prison.

An Aurora man was sentenced to 18 years in prison on Friday as part of a plea agreement.

Alan Diaz-Diaz, 22, is charged with armed violence, a Class X felony stemming from an incident in July 2022.

According to the Kendall County District Attorney's Office, he is accused of delivering over 200 grams of psilocybin mushrooms to an undercover police officer working with the Kendall County Police Assistance Team.

After the drug delivery, police stopped Diaz-Diaz's vehicle and reportedly discovered a loaded handgun in an open backpack within his reach.

Diaz-Diaz admitted to carrying the weapon for “protection during drug transactions” and did not have a Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) card or a Concealed Carry License (CCL), prosecutors said.

After serving his prison sentence, he must serve three years' probation.

“Armed drug dealers should be aware that they will face a very long prison sentence if they attempt to sell drugs while carrying an illegal weapon,” said Kendall County District Attorney Eric Weis.
