Mother wants answers as murder of her 16-year-old son remains unsolved

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – A Memphis mother is once again trying to come to terms with the death of her son four months ago.

Jessica Kaizer said August 25 will be a heavy day for her as she will have to celebrate her 16-year-old son Jeremiah Arnold's birthday without him.

“I’m thinking about going to his grave and putting up some balloons,” Kaizer said.

Kaizer lost her son on March 15th.

Memphis police said Arnold was killed in a triple shooting on Roland Street after attending a party. They have not received any updates on the case from police since then.

“There is someone out there who knows something, who is covering something up, and it [hasn’t come out] not yet,” said Kaizer.

CrimeStoppers executive director David Wayne Brown said that so far this year, 20 murders have been solved through anonymous tips, four more than last year.

Brown said that while the anonymous process is simple, some people may be afraid of it.

“[People are afraid to ‘snitch’]. My response to that is I hope people will come forward because if it was your loved one, wouldn't she want someone who knew something calling you?” Brown said.

In the last 12 months, the nonprofit organization has received over 4,000 tips, of which more than 300 were helpful to the cases.

Kaizer hopes that solving her son's shooting will provide information to Crimestoppers.

“I want justice and I believe that if you have committed a crime, you should serve the punishment. It is not fair that my son has to miss his senior year and his birthday because of a senseless crime,” Kaizer said.
