Saginaw man killed, Swartz Creek man injured in accident

MADISON HEIGHTS, Mich. (WNEM) – A Saginaw man was killed and a Swartz Creek man was injured in a motorcycle crash on I-75 Thursday evening, Aug. 22, Michigan State Police (MSP) said.

MSP said the accident occurred at 9:25 p.m. Thursday on northbound I-75 near 14 Mile Road in Madison Heights.

Police said an investigation at the scene revealed that two motorcyclists were speeding and weaving between lanes when both riders struck the rear corner on the passenger side of a Chevrolet Silverado in the middle left lane.

Both motorcyclists were thrown from their bikes and landed on the right shoulder of the road. The driver of the Chevy came to a controlled stop and was uninjured, MSP said.

One motorcyclist, a 19-year-old man from Saginaw, was pronounced dead at the scene, and the other, a 20-year-old man from Swartz Creek, was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries, according to MSP.

MSP Lt. Mike Shaw urges motorists and motorcyclists to drive safely and avoid risky behavior.
