San Diego man pleads not guilty in murder of two family members

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — The man accused of shooting three family members, killing two of them, pleaded not guilty in court Friday.

60-year-old William Bushey is suspected of opening fire and killing his sister and nephew and injuring his mother.

Two dead and one injured in shooting in Point Loma

Due to the nature of the crime, the judge ruled that Bushey must remain in jail without bail. However, the judge allowed him to receive medical treatment in jail for an unspecified mental illness.

The defendant is prohibited from contacting his 80-year-old mother, June Bushey, whom he is accused of shooting. She is expected to survive.

According to SDPD, officers received a call about the shooting around 3:55 p.m. on Wednesday. SDPD said officers found Bushey outside her Point Loma home on Zola Street and took him into custody. They also found what appeared to be a shotgun near where he was located.

When officers arrived, they found three victims with gunshot wounds inside the apartment. Two of the victims, a woman in her 60s and a man in his 30s, were pronounced dead, the department said.

Bushey's preliminary hearing is scheduled for February 4, 2025. He is charged with two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder.
