Police-involved shooting in east El Paso leads to death of 39-year-old robbery suspect

A 39-year-old man wanted for robbery was shot dead by police on Friday afternoon as they tried to arrest him.

According to El Paso police, officers shot the 39-year-old around 2:30 p.m. while attempting to arrest him in the 11200 block of Vista Del Sol in east El Paso.

An EPPD spokesman said a mix of plainclothes and uniformed officers attempted to execute an arrest warrant for robbery, but the 39-year-old refused and pulled out a gun, leading to a shootout involving officers.

According to EPPD, the incident has triggered three investigations.

The Internal Affairs Division is reviewing the shooting, the Crimes Against the Persons Unit is investigating the criminal case, and the Texas Rangers are conducting their independent investigation.

The EPPD spokesman added that the police-involved shooting was an isolated incident and that there was currently no danger to the public.
