Teenager seriously injured in shooting outside Hopewell store

HOPEWELL, Virginia – A teenager was seriously injured in a shooting outside a Hopewell convenience store Friday afternoon, sources told Crime Insider Jon Burkett.

According to Sergeant C. Taylor of the Hopewell Police Department, officers were called because a person had been shot in the 2600 block of Berry Street just after 4:35 p.m. The shooting occurred in front of the Five Forks supermarket, sources told Burkett.

When officers arrived, they found a 16-year-old boy with multiple gunshot wounds, Crime Insider sources told them.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital with injuries that police described as life-threatening.

No details about the circumstances of the shooting were released.

“The investigation into this incident is ongoing,” Taylor said. “Members of the Hopewell Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division have begun an investigation into this incident.”
