PCA's Jung breaks two Warren County records, but Eagles are beaten by Delta Academy

MARKS – Porter's Chapel Academy and Delta Academy played a game that looked like whoever had the ball last would win.

It was actually the one who had it second to last.

Delta Academy's Lance Johnson threw a 2-yard touchdown pass to Landyn Simmerman and the game-winning pass for a two-point conversion with 2:06 left. The Raiders then made one of the few defensive stops by either team to secure their wild 58-56 victory over Porter's Chapel on Friday.

The teams combined for 15 touchdowns. PCA (0-2) has allowed 132 points in its first two games.

“We just have to continue to play to our strength, which is running the ball. We ran 600 yards tonight. Offensively, we move the ball, we fight hard. We're just playing with a lot of inexperienced guys right now,” PCA coach Blake Purvis said. “Defensively, we just don't have any guys with experience. They've improved from week zero to week one. It's just going to be a process of getting these younger guys ready to play these big roles that we need to give them.”

Porter's Chapel senior running back Jase Jung set a Warren County single-game rushing record with 532 rushing yards and seven touchdowns on a whopping 49 carries, breaking the record of 395 yards set by Demichael Harris in 2015 and six TDs shared by four players.

Jung scored on runs of 43, 35, 11, 6, 3, 55 and 1 yard. On defense, he also had nine tackles and one interception.

Henry Slayton and Auston Moore each had 12 tackles for PCA, and Conley Johnston had nine tackles and a fumble recovery. Moore also ran for 40 yards and scored a touchdown.

PCA took a 28-8 lead early in the second quarter on Moore's 8-yard touchdown run. Delta narrowed the deficit to 34-30 by halftime and took its first lead of the game, 44-42, on Johnson's 2-yard run on the first play of the fourth quarter.

The remaining touchdowns were scored by the teams, with Johnson's short pass to Simmerman on fourth down and the two-point conversion putting Delta back in the lead at 58-56.

PCA brought the ball inside the 35-yard line on its final possession, but was stopped on a third-down run and its fourth-down pass was incomplete with less than 30 seconds left.

“We had to try to throw the ball a couple of times because we were running out of downs, timeouts and opportunities to run the ball. To their credit, they tightened up their defense a little bit after they got the lead and were finally able to stop the ball,” Purvis said. “We drove 60 yards before we were stopped on fourth down. We didn't quite catch the chunks we were getting. Instead of eight for 10, it was three for five on that last drive.”
PCA will be back at home on August 30th to play against Prentiss Christian.
