A 9-year-old boy suffered a gunshot wound to his right leg, authorities said. Police took him to a nearby hospital, where he is in stable condition.

Police said a man in his 30s was shot multiple times and was taken to a nearby hospital by officers. His condition is critical.

Initial investigations revealed that both victims were in a vehicle at the time of the shooting, according to Philadelphia Police Inspector DF Pace. They then ran to a nearby house where they were found by police.

“A black Jeep Cherokee, an early model, was driving down the road and at least two people got out and opened fire on the car. Then they got back in and ran,” Pace told NBC10.

According to police, the man who was allegedly attacked took cover and jumped into a Hyundai Sonata, in which another man and the 9-year-old were already inside. The Sonata is now riddled with bullet holes.

“It appears that at that point, when the individual realized what was happening, he attempted to run for cover when he saw a stopped but moving vehicle. He entered the vehicle. It is unclear whether or not he knew the people in the vehicle,” Pace explained.

Pace said 23 empty cartridge cases were found at the crime scene.

People watched as police cordoned off the street to investigate. One woman described how she felt after the shooting in her neighborhood.

“I go home feeling calm because I'm not afraid. You can't live like this. Am I happy with the circumstances? No, because we have to improve,” Regina Farrell told NBC10.

SkyForce10 was above the scene where a black sedan could be seen with both passenger doors open as officers investigated. Several lane markers were visible on the road.

A firearm was found in a home, police said. No arrests have been made and the motive for the shooting is currently unknown.
