San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan gave an injury update after Friday night's final preseason game against the Las Vegas Raiders. Reporters were eager for details on the two defensive linemen who were injured in the first quarter –Leonard Floyd And Yetur Gross-MatosBoth were eventually ruled out due to knee injuries.

Shanahan announced that both players suffered knee sprains and will undergo MRIs on Saturday. The coach stressed that initial exams did not show any ACL injuries. One positive sign was that both players returned to the sidelines later in the game to join their teammates.

Quarterback Brock Purdy was initially discouraged when he saw the two pass rushers out in the last preseason game. He said of Floyd: “The news is good, sort of. He's feeling better. Hopefully he'll be healthy again, but like I said, it's the third preseason game and it's always scary when one of our starters is out like that.”

Wide receiver Ricky Pearsallwho missed all of the preseason and much of training camp due to a shoulder injury, was also discussed. Shanahan provided details on the injury and stated that he still hopes the rookie will be available in Week 1 against the New York Jets.

“We'll see how he is this week,” Shanahan said. “I hope [him] “He will return to training this week and if that's the case then that's a pretty good sign that he could be available then.”

Shanahan explained that Pearsall is suffering from a shoulder subluxation, or partial dislocation. He did not provide any further details about the current injury, but noted that it originally occurred during Pearsall's college years.

“I think his junior year,” Shanahan said. “About 50% of guys coming out of college do that. That really wasn't the problem. He did it for the first time with us in OTAs, and when you do that, it's sensitive. And then he did it again here a couple weeks ago, and it makes it sensitive, so you want to give him time to recover from that.”

Shanahan added that the injury was not a major concern when Pearsall was signed, as he estimates that about 80% of his players have experienced something similar at some point.

“So it’s a pretty normal thing,” he concluded.
