Agra actor Ruhani Sharma reacts after being mocked for intimate scenes. I stand by my decisions

Actress Ruhani Sharma made an official statement after she faced severe criticism for her intimate scenes in her film 'Agra'. The clips were leaked online. Sharma expressed her disappointment in a long message on X and mentioned that she “stands by her decisions”.

Directed by Kanu Behl, 'Agra' was screened at Cannes in 2023. The film also made it to several international film festivals. However, Ruhani Sharma, who plays a key role in the film, faced brutal online hostility after clips of her intimate scenes from the film went viral. The actress has now made an official statement.

She wrote, “Hi everyone! I have been holding back but I need to address something that has been weighing on my mind ever since the release of my film Agra. To say I am disappointed would be an understatement. It is heartbreaking to see our months of hard work, dedication and passion being disregarded in this manner. Making an art film is an intense journey filled with countless challenges, sleepless nights and unwavering dedication (sic).”

The note continued: “Even more disheartening is how quick some are to judge without understanding how much blood, sweat and tears go into making such a project a reality. Agra is not just another film – it is a labour of love that premiered at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, a prestigious honour for any artist. The film was internationally acclaimed, winning several awards and receiving recognition for exactly what we strive for: pushing the boundaries of world cinema (sic).”

It ended with the words: “I stand by my choices and am incredibly proud of this film and the entire team that made it possible. For those who may not fully understand or appreciate this style of filmmaking, I ask for respect. Art is not always meant to be easy or comfortable – it is meant to challenge, evoke emotions and make us think. Let us highlight and celebrate the diversity of cinema rather than belittle the hard work of artists. Thank you for your support and understanding. Let us continue this creative journey together with love and respect. Love, Ruhani Sharma (sic).”

Here is her contribution:

Ruhani Sharma is best known for her portrayal of more conservative characters, but she ventured into new territory with a bold role in 'Agra'. The actress has been seen in films like 'Kadaisi Bench Karthi', 'Operation Valentine', 'Sriranga Neethulu', 'Love Me', 'Blackout' and others.
