The Festival of Diversity in Solingen was supposed to bring people together to mark the city's 650th anniversary. Instead, three people were murdered by a cold-blooded killer.

A statement by the Wuppertal police on social media said: “Yesterday around 10 p.m. there was an attack at a street festival in #Solingen…an as yet unknown perpetrator attacked several people with a knife.”

The statement continues: “According to current information, three people were killed and four others seriously injured in the attack.”

Police later confirmed that five people were seriously injured in the brutal attack.

In the mass knife attack, the perpetrator aimed at people's necks. People were just celebrating the festival in Solingen and in the next minute three people were killed and others seriously injured.

Tim-Oliver Kurzbach – the mayor of the city that was the target of the angry attack – said: “We wanted to celebrate our city’s birthday together and now we have to mourn the dead and injured.

He continued: “It breaks my heart that our city was attacked. I have tears in my eyes when I think of those we lost. I pray for all those who are still fighting for their lives.”

Herbert Reul (the Minister of the Interior of North Rhine-Westphalia) says, “I can’t say anything about the motive now”

The German police are now searching for the murderer.

A few months ago, a German police officer was killed by a suspected Islamist.

AP News reports, “In May, a police officer was killed in a knife attack by an Afghan immigrant on members of a group that describes itself as opponents of 'political Islam.'”
