Police officer Scottie Scheffler's mug shot released, fans claim arrest for theft and misconduct is “karma”

A Louisville police officer involved in the infamous arrest of Scottie Scheffler earlier this year was arrested himself on Friday in what fans say is a clear example of “karma.”

Officer Javar Downs was charged with abuse of authority and theft after allegedly stealing $1,000 or more. He was accused of pocketing $4,000 from a suspect who was thrown in jail. Wave 3 News.

Louisville Police Department communications later revealed that Downs was temporarily suspended and faces termination from the department. the Louisville Courier-Journal reported.

Later Friday afternoon, the Kentucky police officer's official mug shot was released – three months after Scheffler's own version went viral.

“Allegations of officer misconduct are taken very seriously,” Angela Ingram, LMPD communications director, told the outlet.

“LMPD’s highest priority is accountability and the company remains committed to conducting thorough and expeditious investigations in the best interests of all parties involved.”

Ingram announced that a civilian had filed a complaint against Downs.

In May, Scheffler was arrested before the second round of the PGA Championship at Valhalla due to a misunderstanding about traffic following a fatal accident between a shuttle bus and a pedestrian at the major.

The charges were eventually dropped. Shortly after his arrest, Scheffler got out of jail in time to tee off and play an incredible round of golf.

However, that doesn't mean that the whole ordeal didn't affect him and his reputation.

However, fans believe that Downs' arrest three months later is proof of the existence of “karma.”

“Isn’t karma a real treat???” said another.

A third sentence: “KARMA 101”.

While one simply commented: “So, so, so.”

Shortly after he was cleared of any wrongdoing, Scheffler wrote in a statement: “I want to put this incident behind me and move on and I hope he will do the same.”

“Police officers have a difficult job and I respect them very much. This was a serious misunderstanding in a chaotic situation.”

Downs later admitted that he did not turn on his body camera at the scene where Scheffler was arrested. Activating the body camera is part of LMPD's arrest protocol.
