Zara McDermott 'petrified' while filming BBC Three documentary about drug dealing scene

Zara McDermott was “petrified” when she witnessed a drug deal while filming her new documentary.

The 27-year-old TV star decided to assist local police in a drugs raid for her BBC Three documentary Ibiza: Secrets of the Party Island – which is due to air on Sunday (21.04.24) – and struggled to control her nerves on the drive to the scene, forcing her to pull over.

In The Sun newspaper's TVBiz column, she said: “The scene with the drug dealer was what scared me the most. I drove and pulled up to the kerb about five metres in front of the car because I was so scared of hitting it.”

The former Strictly Come Dancing contestant has hosted a series of hard-hitting documentaries since rising to fame on Love Island in 2018, and recently explained that she wanted to watch the party island because she wanted a look at the party island's “changing culture”.

She said: “Over the years I have always been very interested in documentaries filmed on party islands, but I wanted to do something current and explore some of the issues facing the party islands today.

“I was particularly fascinated by Ibiza because I love the island and have been going there for years.

“Almost a million Brits travel to Ibiza every year and for generations the island has been the destination of many holidaymakers looking for a special combination of sunshine, great beaches and all-night parties.

“I was able to see how the city has changed and improved over time and I realised that this would be a really exciting starting point to explore the impact of the changing culture and its future development.”
