Clark County correctional officer charged with beating inmate

According to an affidavit, an inmate at the Clark County Jail received a medication injection from a nurse in his cell on August 5 when he became angry with correctional officers.

The inmate was placed on the bench of his cell by two correctional officers and restrained while he lay curled up on his side on the bench.

“At this point, CO Jordan struck the inmate … several times with his fist in the shoulder and back area,” the affidavit states.

Other correctional officers and a nurse gave statements to a detective about the incident.

“The correctional officers involved stated that CO Steven Jordan punched an inmate … multiple times, even though the inmate was obedient and did not attempt to cause physical harm to anyone,” the affidavit states.

As the inmate tried to exit his cell after the shooting, Jordan allegedly pushed him, causing the inmate and a second correctional officer to fall against the wall and bench. The other correctional officer hit her head as she fell backwards, court records say.

Jordan is on leave.
