Deputy Taylor Bristow of Carroll County dies after shooting in the line of duty

A Carroll County deputy who was shot in the line of duty earlier this week has died.

The Carroll County Sheriff's Office posted on its Facebook page: “Tonight we mourn the passing of Investigator Bristow, who has left this earth and gained his wings in heaven. He served our community with unwavering passion and dedicated his life to protecting the citizens of Carroll County. We are deeply saddened and at a loss for words. Please keep his family in mind and pray for them and respect their privacy as they grieve this difficult loss.”

The Carroll County Sheriff's Office said Bristow helped the GBI execute a search warrant on Don Rich Drive on Tuesday morning for “sexual exploitation of children.”

“The situation was very volatile at that point and our deputy was shot while executing the search warrant,” said Ashley Hulsey, spokeswoman for the Carroll County Sheriff's Office.

The shots hit Deputy Bristow in the face. He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment and was placed in the intensive care unit.

The suspected shooter was later found dead. The sheriff's office said none of the officers fired their weapons.

Bristow served the sheriff's office for about six years. Sheriff Terry Langley described him as an outstanding and dedicated officer.

“Just pray. Just pray. That's all we can ask. Just pray for our deputy, pray for our department. Pray for his family and pray that this nonsense stops. Our deputies wear a gun, a badge and a vest every day and they never know if they're going to make it home and that's something that really sticks with all of us when something like this happens,” Hulsey said.

He leaves behind a wife and two children.

The loss of Bristow is the second tragedy to strike Georgia law enforcement this week. His death follows shortly after the line-of-duty death of Paulding County Deputy Brandon Cunningham, whose funeral was held Friday.
