Man convicted of injuring two people in an accident while driving while under the influence of alcohol

An Illinois man currently incarcerated in the Iowa Department of Corrections was sentenced Thursday in Grundy County. Sean Rowan, 33, of Markham pleaded guilty to driving under the influence and aggravated assault, a fourth-degree felony, and was sentenced to five years in prison.

As part of the agreement, six other charges were dropped, including two summary offenses. Rowan must serve 85 percent of the sentence and received credit for 400 days in the Grundy County Jail. Rowan was arrested by Illinois State Police on December 24 at approximately 5 p.m. on charges of drunken driving and other traffic violations.th of 2021.

ISP officials said a vehicle driven by Rowan collided with the rear of a vehicle driven by Brad Fort of Plainfield on Interstate 80 near mile marker 103 in Grundy County. The collision caused Fort's vehicle to veer off the right side of the roadway, roll over and strike a tree. Fort and a female passenger were taken to a local hospital for their injuries. Rowan was not injured. According to court records, Rowan was under the influence at the time of the incident and did not have a license or permit to drive.

Rowan is also charged with leaving the scene of an accident and failing to notify police. Rowan is currently serving time in the Iowa Department of Corrections for burglary and will be eligible for parole in July 2025.
