Five years ago Jovin Webb was at a crossroads. Despite being a lifelong musician and having deep roots in Louisiana, his dream of a music career seemed more unattainable than ever. Now, with his long-awaited debut album rover Release on October 18th via Blind Pig RecordsWebb is back in the spotlight and ready to introduce the world to his unique blend of blues, soul and southern rock.

To build excitement around Drifter, Webb has revealed the album’s first single: “Bottom of a bottle“— a raw and electrifying blues anthem that hits with the force of a barroom confession. The dark and soulful track features Webb's signature gravelly vocals and powerfully speaks of life's darker moments, all set against a backdrop of deep Louisiana blues. The song perfectly sets the stage for the album's deeply personal themes and offers listeners a first taste of the emotional journey to come. “Bottom of a Bottle” is streaming now on all platforms, accompanied by a striking new music video.

Speaking about Drifter, Webb shares:

rover is the sound of a bluesy life searching for salvation through the gospel. I'm trying to understand religion, women, my career and everything I've been through.”

Produced by Multi-grammy-award-winning producer Tom Hambridge (known for his work with buddy guy, Susan TedeschiAnd ChristoneKingfishIngram), Drifter offers a lively mix of growling blues, soulful ballads and Southern rock. The twelve-track collection features Webb's plaintive harmonica, Little Richard-style rock'n'roll and poignant storytelling, drawing inspiration from the highs and lows of his personal journey.

The first single, “Bottom of a Bottle,” is a tough and melodic Chicago-style blues number played with a Crescent City Shuffle behind the beat. It uses the poetics of a barroom preacher to capture the harshness of austere Louisiana life. Webb's gravelly voice shines as he sings: Hold me, taste me, squeeze me/I'll keep you company/Forget that woman/I can set you free/Take a shot for my troubles/Take a shot for the pain/At the bottom of a bottle/I'll flush your sins down the drain.

Webb says of the song:

“It's about those moments when you're at rock bottom and finding comfort wherever you can, even if it's at the bottom of a bottle. The blues has always been about developing deep feelings and this track really embodies that.”

“Drifter” reflects Webb’s personal journey, which was heavily influenced by the Southern Black Baptist church music that shaped his early years and the blues that later called to him during his trials.

He states:

“I quickly realized that gospel and blues are related. Someone with blues is devastated, and when you're looking for redemption, you're usually devastated.”
