Man arrested in Connecticut for threatening drivers with paintball gun

A Putnam man was arrested in Connecticut Friday night for threatening drivers with a paintball gun.

Shortly after 6 p.m., state police received several calls about a red sedan tailgating other vehicles and driving aggressively on southbound I-395 at Thompson and Putnam.

Callers reported that the driver also pointed a firearm at nearby vehicles in a “threatening manner.”

Police received similar complaints that a red vehicle pointed a “black assault rifle” at other drivers at a traffic light on Route 44 in Putnam.

Police found the vehicle, a red Dodge Avenger, and the driver, 24-year-old Angelo Raymond Martinez, on Powhattan Street in Putnam.

Police said they found a black AR-style paintball gun in the Avenger.

Martinez was arrested and charged with first-degree menacing and displaying a firearm, illegal possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle, driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, and second-degree disturbing the public peace.

He was held on $15,000 bail and is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Danielson Superior Court.
