The Mariners' highly rated and up-and-coming pitcher suffered another injury

Teddy McGraw, selected by the Mariners in the third round of the 2023 draft, has always been considered frequently injured but extremely talented. He underwent two Tommy John surgeries in four years, the last one during his time at Wake Forest. However, the time between the two procedures prompted the Mariners to give the right-hander a chance.

McGraw has always flashed his 55-90 mph heater in his late years, allowing the 22-year-old to stay in the upper part of the zone. Sound familiar? It should, because that's how all five starters in Seattle attack opposing batters. McGraw has cranked up his fastball to triple digits this season, while presenting advanced offspeed pitches, especially the slider, as above average, and the changeup is firmly in the above-average range.

After finally beginning his professional career with the Modesto Nuts nearly six weeks ago, McGraw is back on the bench. According to Mariner Minors, he was taken out of a game last night after throwing just two dominant innings. After throwing a slider in the third inning against San Jose, McGraw signaled to the catcher and headed to the locker room after a brief meeting with manager Zach Vincej and team trainers. It's a disappointing development in terms of the role he could play in the next wave of great Mariner pitchers, especially since there seemed to be a gap between the lower levels of the farm and the big league club.

In four appearances in the California League, Teddy McGraw has pitched 8 2/3 innings, notching nine strikeouts and amassing a 4.15 ERA. The stats don't jump out at you, but in this case, it's the stuff that counts. There's no news on the supremely talented pitcher's injury, but we'll keep you updated on the status of the Mariners' 14th-rated prospect as more information becomes available.
