Although the Calcutta police had previously stated that Roy had confessed to his crime during interrogation, the accused claimed that the blame had been placed on him.

“The polygraph test of Roy had to be postponed due to technical reasons. It is likely to be held on Sunday at the Presidency Correctional Home, where he is currently lodged. The polygraph test of six other persons was conducted on Saturday,” a CBI official said.

Roy has been placed in cell number 21 of the reformatory under heavy guard. He is alone in the cell. Security cameras are installed outside the cell.

Prison officials familiar with the matter said Roy claimed to prison security personnel that he knew nothing about the crime.

Roy made similar allegations when he was produced before the Chief Magistrate Judge (ACJM) court in Sealdah on Friday. The hearing was held in the ACJM courtroom.

“He had said that he was accused of something and that he knew nothing about the case. When the court asked him why he agreed to the lie detector test, he said that it could help prove his innocence,” said one of the lawyers present in the courtroom.

However, both the Kolkata Police and the CBI found several discrepancies in his statements. Investigators said there were several points that Roy could neither explain nor substantiate.

“He tried to mislead the investigators. He could not give a satisfactory answer about the fresh injuries on his face and other parts of his body, as well as the video footage showing his presence in the corridor leading to the crime scene at 4:03 a.m., a few minutes before the crime,” an official said.

A senior police official said investigators had seized at least 40 pieces of evidence from the crime scene, secured CCTV footage from the hospital, confiscated the accused's mobile phone and extracted the data by cloning, and collected samples such as urethral swab, semen, hair, fingernails and nail shavings during the forensic examination.
