Three people arrested in connection with shooting in downtown Salt Lake City

SALT LAKE CITY – Police have arrested three people suspected of being involved in a gang-related shooting in downtown Salt Lake City on Aug. 10.

On Saturday, August 10, at 12:55 a.m., Salt Lake City police officers responded to an “unrelated call” at 320 South State Street, where a fight was taking place, according to a Salt Lake City Police press release. Officers report that during the fight, someone dropped a weapon.

When police learned of the fight on South State Street, they heard several gunshots near State Street and Exchange Place, the news release said.

A 24-year-old woman was hit by a ricochet bullet and taken to hospital in “serious but stable condition” but later released.

A man was also shot and taken to a hospital in critical condition. The news release said he is still in the hospital and is expected to survive. His name is not being released because police said he has been charged in another out-of-state matter.

Investigators said they are looking into whether there is a connection between the initial fight and the shooting.

Police arrest three people

The press release said police in Taylorsville arrested a 32-year-old man on numerous offenses unrelated to the shooting, but officials said he is “suspected of involvement in the shooting and is facing criminal charges.”

Detectives with the SLCPD's Gang Unit arrested 22-year-old Raymond Gallegos on charges of illegal possession of a firearm as a restricted person and illegal possession of a controlled substance with intent to resell, the release said. Officers report they have “reasonable suspicion” that Gallegos was illegally in possession of a firearm during the fight near 320 South State St.

Detectives from the SLCPD's Gang Unit also arrested 30-year-old Devin Bradly in Ogden. Officials reported that detectives had a search warrant and found drugs, weapons “and other evidence possibly related to” the Aug. 10 shooting. The news release said Bradley was arrested on outstanding warrants.

Charges are merely allegations, and any person arrested is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
