Philadelphia driver arrested after leaving scene of accident on I-78

Pennsylvania State Police have released details of a fatal crash that occurred at 4:54 p.m. on Friday, August 23, on I-78 westbound in Greenwich Township.

According to a public information release, the incident occurred when the victim, identified as 49-year-old Jymel Dejuan Smith of Clermont, Florida, stopped his semi-trailer on the right shoulder of westbound I-78 near mile marker 41.5 in Greenwich Township and exited his vehicle.

The victim was struck by a passing motorist while outside his vehicle. According to police, the passing motorist did not stop at the scene of the accident and did not inform police of his involvement in the accident.

The crashed vehicle was located by police officers away from the scene of the accident and the driver of the crashed vehicle, identified as 42-year-old Akhmadkhon V. Ubaykhonov of Philadelphia, was taken into custody for leaving the scene of a fatal accident.
