In viral TikTok, deer mistakes a woman's crying baby for her fawn

An adorable mother deer has gone viral on TikTok for mistaking a woman's screaming newborn for her fawn.

In a viral clip, TikToker Ann (ann_ann_98) filmed her baby crying on a blanket spread out on a porch while she tried to comfort him.

Then she noticed something on the lawn that caught her attention: a doe rushing toward her crying newborn, entering the area with a sense of urgency.

“Oh no, no, no. That's my baby. This is my baby,” Ann said to the deer as she quickly covered her child and lifted him into her arms. “He's not yours.”

Her child continued to cry, and the TikToker shushed her several times. The video then cuts to a later moment and shows Ann standing in front of the mother deer. While she was feeding her out of camera view, she noticed another deer in her backyard.

It appears that the mother's fawn was wandering around Ann's yard. She filmed the young fawn walking along the outside wall of her house until it reached a corner where it began sniffing the area.

Ann's video has received over 7.3 million views and more than 1.5 million likes. In the comments, some TikTok users noted that fawns and human babies sound very similar when they cry.

“Have you ever heard a fawn scream? Because I thought someone once left their baby in a field and ran away and it was a fawn,” said one viewer. “I just looked up what baby fawns sound like when they scream and I understand why she was confused,” said another.

Others were impressed by how quickly the mother deer responded to Ann's baby's cries. “Her maternal instincts struck so quickly,” one person wrote. “This mama was ready to throw hooves,” another joked. “Motherhood is universal and this makes me cry,” a third person added.

This is just the latest deer-related moment that went viral on TikTok after a man woke up and happened to see a deer in his bed.
