Home and Away's Tane Parata goes to prison over baby story

The following are spoilers for Home and Away from Australian-paced episodes that some UK viewers may prefer to avoid.

Home and Away's Tane Parata faces prison after recent twists in the abandoned baby storyline.

A few weeks ago, Tane found an abandoned baby on the beach and spent almost every waking minute caring for her at the hospital. He named her Maia and began to look into opportunities to become her legal guardian.

But after Tane received a court warning not to visit the hospital and Maia's mother arrived at the scene, he took the baby and disappeared.

In scenes airing in Australia this week and in the UK in May, Tane turns himself in to the authorities after learning that Maia is being sought nationwide. He is quickly arrested and faces trial.

Although Tane has done everything he can to keep Maia out of a system that he believes will fail her, the situation is not looking good for him.

“He is certainly facing a prison sentence,” Ethan Browne, who plays Tane, told TV Week.

However, Tane is not the only person in trouble, as Nurse Dana was convinced to let Tane into the hospital to visit Maia.

Although she thought he was just saying goodbye, it was the fact that she left the two of them alone that allowed Tane to run away with the baby in tow. As a result, Dana feels a lot of guilt about what happened.

Ally Harris, who plays Dana, said her character was “sensible enough to know she couldn't have foreseen this.”

“But it's very simple: if he hadn't been with her, he wouldn't have been able to take her with him.”

Home and Away airs weekdays at 1.45pm on Channel 5, with repeats at 6pm on 5STAR and first previews at 6.30pm on 5STAR. Selected classic episodes are available via Prime Video in Great Britain.

In Australia, the show airs Monday to Thursday at 7pm on Channel 7 and is streamed on 7Plus.
