Repeat offender caught with weapon and drugs during X-ray examination in Maryland hospital must go to prison

In May 2023, Havre de Grace police officers were called to Harford Memorial Hospital to investigate reports of an armed individual, later identified as Sathrie Zach Robinson Jr., authorities said.

Prosecutors said Robinson was admitted for treatment and evaluation following an accident, and while examining an X-ray, hospital staff discovered a loaded handgun with hollow-point ammunition as well as more than 100 grams of cocaine and methamphetamine.

His possessions included a scale and packaging materials. Officers noted that Robinson was prohibited from possessing firearms due to previous convictions for assault and drug offenses.

Robinson was convicted in July of:

  • Possession of narcotics with the intent to resell;
  • Possession of a firearm during a drug offense;
  • Two counts of CDS possession: No cannabis;
  • Possession of a firearm with a previous felony conviction;
  • Illegal possession of a firearm;
  • Handgun on the person;
  • Loaded handgun pointed at a person;
  • Illegal possession of ammunition.

On Friday, authorities announced that Robinson was sentenced to 30 years in prison, with the first 10 years to be served without parole. The judge also ordered an additional 10 years for violating probation in connection with the assault case.

“We will continue to seek maximum penalties for repeat offenders who commit crimes in our communities,” said Harford County District Attorney Alison Healey.

“I applaud the efforts to secure a harsh sentence in this case and to contribute to the safety of our county by removing this repeat offender from our streets.”
