Auburn running back Brian Battie was released from the hospital on Saturday after suffering a gunshot wound to the head in May, according to his mother, Adriene Battie.

“Words cannot express the joy and gratitude we feel right now,” she wrote. “We have experienced a miracle and we know it is because of God's grace, mercy and the power of prayer. We prayed every day for God's healing and we claimed it knowing Brian would leave the hospital and today HE DID IT!”

Battie was in critical condition after the shooting, which also killed his brother, Tommie Battie IV. The Auburn running back faced permanent paralysis, but began walking again with a cane in July and hopes for a full recovery.

Battie, a senior, rushed for 2,069 yards and 11 touchdowns in a college career that included stints at USF (2020-22) and Auburn (2023-present). He also scored three touchdowns in his career as a kick returner.

“During these difficult months, we have seen God's hand at work in so many ways – from the incredible doctors and nurses who have cared for him, to the love and support of our family and friends, to the strength Brian has shown every day,” his mother wrote. “We are in awe of his goodness and the miraculous recovery that has taken place before our eyes.”
