Football preview: Warhawks aim to win 4-0 against Nicholls on Sunday afternoon

START –

The ULM football team (3-0) is playing a three-game home series at Brown Stadium for the second consecutive year, facing former conference foe Nicholls (0-1-1) on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Monroe. The Warhawks will look to continue their winning streak after defeating the Grambling State Tigers 3-1 on Thursday night in Monroe.

Scouting out the enemy –

Nicholls will be looking to break their own winning streak when they head to Monroe on Sunday afternoon. The Colonels played Louisiana Tech 0-0 at home to start the season, but then lost 2-0 to Grambling State in Thibodaux. The Colonels currently sit seventh in the Southland Conference standings. Nicholls' Lauren Andre was also named to the Southland Preseason All-Conference Second Team.

THREE IS THE MAGIC NUMBER –

The Warhawks started the preseason strong, being ranked No. 3 in the Sun Belt preseason coaches poll with 138 votes. This is the highest ranking ULM Soccer has achieved in the SBC preseason poll since joining the conference in 2006. The Warhawks opened the season 3-0 for the third time in program history. The last time was in 2014 when ULM opened the season 4-0. The first time this happened was in 2008.

LAST TIME –

MONROE, Louisiana – The ULM Warhawks defeated the Grambling State Tigers 3-1 on Thursday night and started the season 3-0.

Grambling's Cindy Norfles scored in the 18th minute to take an early lead. Experienced midfielder Mara Grutkamp was able to equalize the match to 1:1. The assist came from Vanessa Praher. In the 29th minute, Freshman Beth Strutton scored a header and the Warhawks led 2-1. The assist came from Grutkamp.

In the 71st minute, Praher converted a Tigers foul into a chance and extended the Warhawks' lead to 3-1. The goal was again assisted by Grutkamp, ​​who scored her second goal of the game and the season.

ULM won the game 10-7 against Grambling State. Praher, Grutkamp and Jensyn Lins The Warhawks led with two shots each. Jennifer Handy took care of everything in the second half and was able to save three fouls. Both teams committed a total of 29 fouls, 14 of which went to the Warhawks.
