19-year-old from Salinas killed in early morning accident – ​​KION546

SALINAS, Calif. (KION-TV) – The CHP confirmed that a 19-year-old Salinas man was killed in a crash early Saturday morning on the city's north side.

The accident was reported to the CHP shortly after 6 a.m. at the intersection of Russell and Harrison Road.

According to new information from the CHP, a Honda SUV was heading northbound toward the intersection while a Lexus sedan was heading southbound toward the same intersection.

Investigators said the Lexus attempted to turn left onto Russell Road, but the Honda continued through the intersection and collided with the Lexus.

The CHP said a passenger in the Lexus was pronounced dead at the scene and was identified only as a 19-year-old man from Salinas.

No further information was provided on injuries to anyone else in the vehicles. The CHP did not immediately say whether either vehicle ran a red light at the time of the collision.

According to the CHP, the investigation is still ongoing.
