Sonny Gullage releases new album “Go Be Free”

Go and be freethe debut album from rising blues star Sonny Gullage, was released yesterday. Produced by legendary four-time Grammy winner Tom Hambridge, this 12-song collection takes listeners on a modern blues odyssey with its blend of traditional blues, gospel and R&B influences.

Kevin “Sonny” Gullage was born and raised in New Orleans. At the age of 12, he wrote his first song about the ecological and economic damage caused by the BP oil spill. The producer was Tom Hambridge, who is known for his work with Buddy Guy, BB King and Susan Tedeschi. Go and be free There is also a fiery guest appearance by blues prodigy Christone “Kingfish” Ingram. The two musicians, both 25, have a deep connection to the blues.

Sonny also draws on his family's rich musical heritage throughout the album. His father, bassist Tony Gullage, has performed with blues and roots legends such as Henry Butler and Dr. John, while his grandmother, Sister Alberta Gullage, released gospel records in the 1960s. Additionally, Sonny's surname was originally Ledbetter, linking him to groundbreaking blues/folk legend Huddie “Lead Belly” Ledbetter.

Before starting his solo career, Sonny earned his stripes as an artist in residence at BB King's Blues Club in New Orleans. When the pandemic prevented live performances, Sonny took a leap of faith and tried it out for American Idolwhere he made it to the Showstoppers round. Since then he has toured extensively and thrilled audiences in the US and Europe.

In addition to his musical achievements, Sonny has composed music for films and podcasts and appeared in films such as The last laugh And Burning stickHis voice was also featured in the 2019 release of Disney’s Lady and the Tramp.
