Wesley Snipes released from prison, under house arrest

Wesley Snipes was released from prison and placed under house arrest to serve the remainder of his sentence for tax evasion.

The “Blade” star, who was convicted of failing to file a tax return in 2008, lost a retrial in 2010 and began serving his three-year sentence at the minimum-security McKean Federal Correctional Institution in Pennsylvania in December of that year.

However, as TMZ.com reports, he was released from his prison cell on Tuesday and transferred to the New York Community Corrections Office, where he met with the officials overseeing his house arrest.

He must now remain under house arrest until July 19, the official end of his sentence.

Snipes, 50, has always maintained his innocence and insists he was defrauded by tax advisors.
