“WAREHAM – On August 23, 2024, at approximately 8:03 p.m., Wareham Police Department officers responded to a report of possible shots fired in the marsh area behind the Marriott Town Place Suites at 50 Rosebrook Way.

Upon arrival, officers were notified by hotel management of suspicious activity by a guest who had entered the hotel after returning from the marshland. The man was later identified as Scott Desimas of New Bedford. As officers attempted to contact Mr. Desimas in his room, three shots were fired from inside the room through the door.

Two of the shots narrowly missed officers and pierced a wall behind which was a pool where two children and an adult were. Additionally, another adult and a child were sitting at the edge of the pool and reported seeing debris fall into the pool, which was later determined to be the sidewall material dislodged by the bullets.

Fortunately, no one was injured in this incident. Mr. Desimas left the room shortly after the shooting and was taken into custody. A search of the room revealed two firearms, including a rifle and a pistol. A woman and two small children were also in the room at the time of the shooting and were safely escorted out of the room. The investigation is ongoing and has been turned over to the Wareham Police Department Criminal Investigation Division.

Police Chief Walter Correia Jr. commends emergency responders for their quick and decisive actions to ensure the safety of all hotel guests and employees during this critical incident.
