Man dies after alleged attack at Southwark tube station in London | Crime

A man has died after allegedly being attacked at a London subway station, the British Transport Police (BTP) said.

The victim, who is currently only a 28-year-old man, had been in critical condition in hospital since Thursday and died on Saturday evening surrounded by his family.

According to BTP, officers were called to Southwark station in southeast London at 9.44pm on Thursday after a report of an assault on the stairs.

Rakeem Miles, 23, from Southwark, was arrested the next morning and later charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

He is in custody, BTP said.

Investigators are now trying to update the charges to reflect the change in the victim's condition.

Senior investigating officer DI Paul Attwell said: “There is no place for violence on the rail network and I urge anyone who has information and has not yet spoken to us to come forward.”

“We have specialist family liaison officers supporting the victim’s family and my thoughts are with them at this incredibly difficult time.”
